Thursday: I got up around 2 am to finish packing for MFM on about 3 hours sleep. Had been sick to my stomach with a moderate migraine, but I wasn't going to cancel my first vacation in almost a year. Finished packing my fursuit and clothes around 3am, then left for the airport at 4am. The flight to Newark left at 6:30, arrived there around 9, and in Memphis by 1pm. Wasn't feeling too hot through most of the flight and getting to the hotel, but I made it without being sick to my stomach again. After getting some hotel food, I pretty much crashed until Friday morning as there wasn't much going on.
Friday: Got up around 6am for breakfast, then went back to bed until 8. Hotel was still pretty quiet. Realized I had forgot to pack my camera memory card and some clothes, oh well nothing major missed. Milled around the labyrinthine hotel to get a sense of how to get around, met a local fur Pyro (a German Shephard) who was really friendly. Oddly kept running into him all throughout the day. Got out Nexii in the afternoon and ran into
Saturday: Met
Sunday: Not a lot of note really, more suiting and ran into more people than I can remember now. Got a few more pics, played with some balloons, ate some more good meals. Enjoyed the sythethic drama of closing ceremonies, though it got a bit long and I ducked out a few minutes early. Went to a few panels and mostly just hung out with Lauren, Kenshin, Mac, Robert some more.
Monday: Most people were leaving early in the morning. Got in some goodbyes, had a crazy long intelligent conversation about life with BattyVitae (vitae also meaning life). Not often you can talk politics and religion without getting into a fight :). Lots to reflect and think about..
Tuesday: Suited a bit for the last time with the last suiter to leave, Duncan. I think he spent 95% of his waking time at the con in suit...just crazy. Even if I was in better shape I'd have been lucky to do more than 4 hours a day. Pretty much most of the suiters had left by this time. First flight back left around 1:30pm, and was going great till about halfway home. I fell asleep for 2 minutes and woke up with another migraine. This one wasn't quite as bad, though still pretty miserable I made it back around midnight and crashed.
Thanks again everyone who made my first con great in every way - hanging out, the drives to meals outside of the hotel, and taking pictures for me. It was kind of daunting to go to a new city, to a convention where I knew pretty much no one but I felt really welcome. Not really what I expected at all. Sure there's the cliques, drama, etc. but that's a given in any community. Well I'm babbling - I plan on AC'10 at the latest for my next con...hopefully one sooner but it's hard to say. I spent way more than I'd have liked to getting to Memphis...plane ticket costs from Canada suck. 9 months is a big gap though so I'll see :D
